High School Roundup: Sailors advance to final

GLENDORA — The Sailors will play for their fourth straight Los Angeles Field Hockey Assn. Tournament of Champions title after winning the semifinal game on the road Wednesday.
Senior Madison Wooters and junior Jill Messersmith scored one goal each, while Kirsten Rohan added an assist for Newport Harbor (19-4-2).
Senior Kelly Conant stood out on defense for the Sailors.
Newport Harbor will play against Huntington Beach at Edison Thursday at 3 p.m. for the TOC crown. It is the fourth straight time the teams have met in the TOC final.
The Oilers beat Harvard-Westlake, 2-0, in the other semifinal Wednesday.

IRVINE — Ben Zepfel (three steals) and Wes Sherburne scored three goals each to help the Sea Kings finish undefeated in the Pacific Coast League Wednesday.
Jake Wyatt added two goals and one assist for CdM (21-6, 10-0 in league), ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division II poll. Playoff pairings will be released Sunday.

COSTA MESA — Senior Paul Sugano-Dyson scored six goals for the Eagles in their season finale Wednesday.
Senior Brody Henshied added three goals, while Brooks Watkins, Derek Andrews and Hayden Swift had two goals each for Estancia (10-16).

Orange Coast League finals
SANTA ANA — Costa Mesa High senior Robert Blackwell finished second in 15 minutes, 48.34 seconds Wednesday at Godinez and advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division III preliminaries.
Blackwell helped the Mustangs take fourth. Estancia, led by junior Hector Rosete (18th, 16:51.94), finished fifth. Godinez won the league finals.
Sophomore Brett Bermudez finished 13th in 16:28.86 for Costa Mesa.
The CIF section preliminaries are Nov. 12 at Mt. San Antonio College.

SANTA ANA — Estancia High senior Mariah Chapin finished second in 19 minutes, 24.22 seconds Wednesday at Godinez to advance to the CIF Southern Section Division III preliminaries.
Chapin helped the Eagles finish fifth. Costa Mesa, led by Raquel Friedmann (15th, 20:32.93), finished fourth. Godinez won the league finals. Chapin will race in the CIF section preliminaries Nov. 12 at Mt. San Antonio College.

Academy League Individuals
NEWPORT BEACH — The Sage Hill doubles team of Casey Astorino and Lauren Hsu advanced to the league finals Wednesday at The Tennis Club Newport Beach, qualifying for CIF Individuals.
Astorino and Hsu finished second in league, falling to Maddie Gottlieb and Tessa Hurr of St. Margaret’s in the doubles final. The top two in singles and doubles advance to CIF Individuals.
Sage Hill’s Liana Korber finished third in league in singles and the doubles team of Katie Bick and Rian Billingsley also finished third. They are first alternates for CIF Individuals, which begin Oct. 18.
