College Roundup: San Jose holds off UCI
SAN JOSE — A post-game video review negated a would-be game-winning tip-in by UC Irvine junior Adam Folker as the host Spartans prevailed, 51-50, in the nonconference men’s basketball game Monday.
UCI’s Aaron Wright drove the lane and put up an errant shot that Folker coaxed into the basket. But after several minutes and looking at a video replay, the officials ruled it did not beat the buzzer.
Wright, a freshman, led the Anteaters (0-2), with 14 points in 20 minutes off the bench. He was four of eight form the field, including his only three-point try, and was five of six from the foul line.
UCI freshman Will Davis had 12 points and nine rebounds. He was six of nine from the field.
Folker who made three of his four field-goal tries, had eight points and nine boards in 20 minutes off the bench.
Keith Shamburger, who led the Spartans (1-1) with 12 points, hit a pair of free throws with 6.2 seconds left to finalize the score.
Wil Carter added 11 points and 14 rebounds for the winners, who shot just 27.6% from the field.
