Girls’ Volleyball: Sage Hill’s Danner, Mckenna on all-league first team
Sage Hill School senior outside hitter Maggie Danner and sophomore outside hitter Halland Mckenna each made the All-Academy League first team after leading the girls’ volleyball team to its second straight CIF Southern Section championship appearance.
Sage Hill’s second-team picks were sophomore opposite Kekai Whitford and sophomore setter Maddy Abbott. Brenna Van Hoogenstyn was an honorable mention.
The Lightning played rival St. Margaret’s for the section title again. While Sage Hill beat St. Margaret’s in the Division 4-AA final in 2011, it lost to the Tartans in the Division 3-A final this year.
Danner finished with 23 kills, 10 digs, three blocks and three services aces in the section championship. Mckenna added 10 kills.
Danner and Mckenna, who are each repeat first-team selections, helped Sage Hill (21-6, 7-3 in league) place second in league.
Danner is bound for Amherst College in Massachusetts.
Mckenna averaged 4.4 kills per set.
St. Margaret’s Ashley Torok and Gigi Morally shared the Academy League MVP award.
