Men’s Basketball: UCI’s Davis lauded
UC Irvine senior Will Davis has been named first-team All-Big West Conference in men’s basketball.
The 6-foot-8 forward leads the Anteaters in scoring (12.7 per game) and rebounding (6.5), and he leads the Big West in field-goal percentage (.528) for all games.
He averaged 4.5 points and 7.3 rebounds in conference play.
Davis is UCI’s career leader in blocked shots with 207 and he is just the third player in Big West history to reach 200 blocks.
He ranks third in the UCI annals with 808 career rebounds and is No. 8 in scoring (1,325).
Davis is only the third player in UCI history to record at least 1,000 points and 800 boards. He joins Dave Baker (1971-75) and Tod Murphy (1982-86).
He received honorable mention in all-conference voting as a junior and was the Big West Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore.
Junior guard Alex Young and sophomore guard Luke Nelson received honorable mention in voting done by coaches.
UCI (18-12) is the No. 3 seed in the Big West Tournament and plays No. 6-seeded UC Riverside in a quarterfinal on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Honda Center in Anaheim.
