College Roundup: UCI defeats LBSU 6-3 in women’s water polo

LONG BEACH – Cambria Shockley had two goals and the visiting Anteaters had nine steals to clinch the Big West Conference regular-season title on Thursday.

No. 6-ranked UCI (20-6, 5-0 in conference) has won seven Big West titles in nine seasons and is now 40-7 in Big West games, all-time.

UCI will be the No. 1 seed for the Big West Tournament, April 28-30, at UC Davis.

No. 12-ranked Long Beach State is 16-11, 3-2.

Golden West 6, Orange Coast 5

The host Rustlers broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the eighth to upset the state’s No. 2-ranked team in Orange Empire Conference play Thursday.

Junior Aguilar was three for four, Chris Rodriguez drove in two runs, and Zakk Morgan and Jeremiah Vison had two hits apiece for the winners (18-18, 8-9 in conference).

OCC (28-8, 13-4) remains tied for first with Riverside, which lost to Saddleback on Thursday.

Luke Hussung had a home run and three RBIs for OCC, for which Jacob White and Travis Moniot had two hits apiece.

Adam Moses earned the win with 2 2/3 scoreless relief innings, while Stephen Knapp earned his second save.

The series concludes Saturday at noon at OCC.
