High School Roundup: Huntington Beach baseball earns 11-9 victory against Corona Santiago

SANTA ANA — Cory Moore hit two home runs for the Oilers, who homered five times at Mater Dei High on Thursday to advance to the Boras Classic South finals.

Hagen Danner hit his ninth home run of the season, and Trevor Windisch homered for the second straight game, adding three runs batted in.

Huntington Beach (18-3) plays defending champion Manhattan Beach Mira Costa (13-7) in the final at JSerra on Friday at 6 p.m.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Corona del Mar def. Beckman

Brandon Browning finished with 13 kills, helping the host Sea Kings improve to 7-0 in the Pacific Coast League with a 25-23, 25-14, 18-25, 22-25, 15-13 win on Thursday.

Clay Dickinson had 12 kills for CdM (19-2).

Kevin Kobrine had nine kills and four block assists, while Mitch Haly added eight kills, two solo blocks and seven block assists.

Patrick Paragas amassed 44 assists and four block assists.

BOYS’ TENNIS

University 13, Corona del Mar 5

Jacob Cooper and Ryan Wessler won two doubles sets for the Sea Kings in Thursday’s Pacific Coast League match.

CdM is 4-3 in league.

Sage Hill 15, Oxford Academy 3

Emin Torlic did not drop a game in singles for the Lightning in Thursday’s Academy League match.

Ian Hang won two singles sets, 6-0, and Rohun Krishnan won his singles set by the same score.

Sophomores Darius Shayan Smith and Robert Gerschultz swept in doubles, 6-4, 6-2, 6-0, for Sage Hill (10-1, 6-0 in league).

Sage Hill plays at Foothill on Friday in a nonleague match.

SOFTBALL

Orange Coast League

Calvary Chapel 18, Estancia 0

Brittany Walker, Angelina Gutierrez, Samantha Ochoa, and Isabelle Morales recorded Estancia’s four hits.

Estancia fell to 8-8, 0-2 in league. The first meeting of the Battle of the Bell, the team’s rivalry with Costa Mesa, will be on Friday at Estancia High.

Costa Mesa 12, Laguna Beach 6

The Mustangs doubled up the Breakers to improve to 2-0 in league.

Costa Mesa (6-10, 2-0) is locked in a three-way tie with Calvary Chapel and Godinez atop the Orange Coast League standings.

Laguna Beach has yet to win a league contest, dropping to 6-9-1, 0-3 in league. The Breakers will take on Saddleback (0-14, 0-1) in their next game on Friday.

Garden Grove League

Rancho Alamitos 5, Los Amigos 4

The Lobos (9-11, 2-3) scored four runs in the top of the first, but they were unable to hold on in the later innings.

Los Amigos was not sharp coming off its Spring Break, committing 10 errors in the field. Those miscues proved costly, as the Lobos fell to 2-3 through the first half of league.

Rancho Alamitos took advantage of the help. The Vaqueros (12-6, 1-4) scored two runs in the sixth, and one run in the seventh and eighth to become walk-off winners.
