Ross advances at FIVB World Championships
THE HAGUE, Netherlands — Costa Mesa residents April Ross and Brooke Sweat, and their separate partners, won in the round of 32 on Wednesday at the Federation International de Volleyball Beach Volleyball World Championships.
Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings, the No. 3-seeded entry, crushed the No. 32-seeded duo of Gabriela Filippo and Michelle Sharon Valiente Amarilla from Paraguay, 21-6, 21-10, to advance to Thursday’s round of 16.
Ross and Walsh Jennings will face the No. 12-seeded Chinese duo of Fan Wang and Yuan Yue in the round of 16.
Sweat and Lauren Fendrick, seeded No. 15, rallied to defeat No. 20-seeded Kinga Kolosinska and Monika Brzostek of Poland, 22-24, 21-8, 15-10, in the round of 32.
Sweat and Fendrick will face the No. 13-seeded Italian pair of Marta Menegatti and Viktoria Orsi Toth in the round of 16.
