Blues’ Thompson honored
Orange County Blues FC goalkeeper Bill Thompson made the United Soccer League’s Team of the Week after stopping three shots late, including a penalty kick, to secure the Blues’ 1-0 win against the Austin Aztex at UC Irvine on Saturday.
Thompson, making his first appearance since Orange County’s season opener in March, finished with six saves, helping the Blues (10-8-3, 33 points) move into fifth place in the Western Conference. Thompson started for Pepe Miranda, who missed the match because of a red card he picked up at the Real Monarchs SLC on Aug. 1.
The Blues return to action on Saturday, when they travel to play the Arizona United SC (8-12-1) at 7:30 p.m.
