WOMEN’S SOCCER

Northwestern Ohio 2, Vanguard 1

Vanguard University sophomore Madison Lopp scored in the 26th minute to pull the No. 2-ranked Lions even, 1-1, but the No. 2-ranked visitors scored in the 57th minute of the nonconference game Saturday.

Vanguard (1-1) had nine shots, one more than Northwestern Ohio (2-0-2) and freshman Ashly Bradshaw made three saves for the Lions.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

American Campus Classic

UCI fell to No. 3-ranked Texas, 25-13, 25-7, 26-24, Saturday.

Harlee Kekauoha led the Anteaters with seven kills, while Sydney Wright added six.

UCI hit .033 as a team.

Later Saturday, UCI fell to Rice, 25-23, 27-29, 25-12, 25-22 to fall to 1-2.

Victoria Davis had 17 kills and Ella Rosenfeld added 13, while Kekauoha had 12 kills and 15 digs against the Owls (2-1).

Big Sky Challenge

HELENA, Mont. — The Lions suffered two straight five-set losses, falling to Rocky Mountain College, 25-27, 25-18, 25-18, 21-25, 15-10, Saturday night.

Charlotte Heerlyn led Vanguard (2-2) with 20 kills. Kelly Dalrymple amassed 32 assists.

Earlier Saturday, Vanguard fell to Eastern Oregon, 25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 15-13.

Senior Sarah McKinny tied for team-high honors with nine kills and also added one solo block and five block assists for the Lions.

Juanae Johnson had nine kills for Vanguard, for which freshman libero Rebecca Lowden had 29 digs.

Rory McCloy had 24 assists and a team-best three aces for Vanguard.

MEN’S SOCCER

Vanguard 1, Northwest 0

The host Lions, ranked No. 8 in the NAIA, scored in the 83rd minute to claim the nonconference game Friday.

Juan Arellano converted an assist from Brian Torres to break the scoreless deadlock and help improve the Lions to 2-0.

Brandon Gomez made one save for the winners, who outshot the visitors, 28-4.

Jesus Fregoso led Vanguard with seven shots.

Arellano now has two goals and one assist this season.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Big Sky Challenge

HELENA, Mont. — The host Lions, ranked No. 8 in the NAIA, earned wins over Carroll College and Montana State University-Northern on Friday.

Vanguard topped Carroll, 25-18, 25-22, 28-30, 25-22, behind 16 kills from senior Charlotte Heerlyn and 15 from junior Jessica Chase.

Senior Sarah McKinny had 12 kills and a .526 hitting percentage, while setters Kelly Dalrymple and Rory McCloy had 25 and 22 assists, respectively.

Vanguard topped Montana State Northern, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19 , behind 12 kills each from Heerlyn and freshman Shaylen Larson-Piper.

Sophomore Taylor Jackson added 10 kills with a .500 hitting percentage, and freshman Rebecca Lowden had a career-high 32 digs.

Vanguard improved to 5-2.
