College Roundup: Cal State San Marcos edges Vanguard men’s soccer

The visiting Cougars scored in the 108th minute of the nonconference game on Wednesday to hand the Lions their first defeat of the season.
Juan Arellano had seven of Vanguard’s 22 shots, but Cougars goalkeeper Zach Sheppard made five saves to earn the shutout.
Vanguard is 2-1, while Cal State San Marcos, which took 20 shots, is now 2-0.
Brandon Gomez had six saves for the Lions, for whom Jesus Fregoso and Brian Torres had four shots apiece.

Indiana 2, UC Irvine 1 (OT)
AUBURN, Ala — Freshman Grayson Galbraith converted a corner kick from Jenna Pellegrino in the 49th minute to knot the score and force overtime, but the Hoosiers netted the game-winner in the 99th minute in the Auburn Soccer Classic on Sunday.
Galbraith’s first career goal halted a scoreless streak of 319 minutes to open the season for UCI (0-4), which outshot Indiana, 7-3, after halftime.
Jenn Randazzo made four saves for UCI, which plays host to Fresno State on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Kayla Smith, Jordan Woolums and Kailee Feinstein had two shots apiece for UCI.
Indiana is 2-2.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Cal State Fullerton invitational
Orange Coast College sophomore Brandon Ferguson finished second, completing the 8,000-meter course in 26 minutes, 27.9 seconds to pace the Pirates on Saturday.
OCC’s Lucio Ramirez was fourth (26:41.8) and teammate Jesus Valdez (27:16.2) was 12th.
OCC’s 61 team points tied for first with Glendale.
