Lions’ Neves lauded in women’s volleyball

Vanguard University junior Jessica Neves was recenlty named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week in women’s volleyball.

Neves, a 6-foot-2 opposite and setter, had 47 assists, a team-best 49 kills, six aces and five blocks to help the Lions go 4-0 at the Menlo tournament, completed Sept. 7.

Neves had a team-best 18 kills in a four-set win over Wayland Baptist on Saturday.

The Lions (11-2), who are on a 10-match winning streak, open GSAC play Saturday at 7 p.m. at Hope International.
