Senior goalie Dylan Peterson had 19 daves to lead the No. 8-ranked Anteaters over the No. 7-ranked 49ers in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game Saturday at UCI.

Matt Skinner’s goal with 52 seconds left in the third quarter gave UCI (9-2, 1-0 in conference) an insurmountable 6-3 lead. Skinner was one of six Anteaters to score.

Long Beach State is 4-6, 0-2.

Vanguard 8, Hope International 3

The third-ranked Lions (9-1, 3-0) overcame a brief deficit in the second half with six straight goals to win the Golden State Athletic Conference matchup at home.

Luke Kadillak tied the game at 3-3 about six minutes into the second half, then gave Vanguard the lead for good by converting on a penalty kick less than four minutes later. It was his third goal of the match.

Ivan Azpieta added two goals, and Juan Arellano, Kelvin Fares and Nahum Paz added goals for the Lions.

Hope dropped to 4-6, 0-3.

Vanguard at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

CLAREMONT —Zach DeAtley led the way for the Lions’ men and Keili Dorn paced the women’s squad.

The Vanguard men’s team finished 12th among 16 scoring teams. DeAtley finished the 8k course in 26:18 and was in 29th place overall among 167 finishers. Two of the Lions’ top runners (Jesus Gutierrez and Jared Shohfi were held out of competitiondue to minor injuries. Rounding out the top-five scoring positions were Christian Mora, 28:31; Brandon Joseph, 28:38 (an 8k personal best); and Cameron Barela, 33:00. Both DeAtley and Mora bettered their 8k times from last year on the rolling campus course, Mora by 54 seconds.

For the women,i Dorn finished 36th overall among 192 competitors in her first ever 6k in a time of 23:17. Bayleigh Porter bettered her 6k time from last year by 27 seconds finishing 71st in 24:14. Sarah Finch raced for the first time in nearly a year (following a long recovery from a stress fracture in her femur) and placed 173rd with a 6k mark of 28:31. Lauran Soholt, Olivia Rosellini and Jenna Birkes did not compete, but hope to be back in action in two weeks.

Next up for the cross country teams is the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Oct. 17.
