High School Roundup: Keju leads Mesa

Kintka Keju amassed 32 assists to help lead the Costa Mesa High girls’ volleyball team past crosstown rival Estancia, 25-20, 25-27, 25-10, 25-16, in the Mustangs’ gym Tuesday night.

Cat Kricorian recorded 10 kills and 12 digs and Stephanie Willett added 12 kills and five blocks for Costa Mesa (4-2, 1-1 in league).

Olivia Warner served for 12 straight points for the Mustangs in the second set, when Costa Mesa trailed, 24-12, but Estancia held on for the win. Warner finished with seven digs and five aces.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Estancia 15, Costa Mesa 3

Junior Kinley Ohland swept at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, as part of the Eagles’ Orange Coast League win Tuesday at Costa Mesa High.

Sophomore Meg Tuxford and junior Taranjit Kaur swept at No. 3 doubles, 6-4, 6-3, 6-0, for Estancia (6-7, 3-2 in league), which lost at El Modena, 10-8, on Monday. Sophomore Karina Catalano swept in singles for the Eagles, who play host to Calvary Chapel on Thursday.

Newport Harbor 12, Edison 6

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Jenn Kingsley swept at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-4, 6-0, for the Sailors in the Sunset League match Tuesday.

Anna Burke and Kendall Cosenza swept at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-0, 6-1, and Courtney Howarth and Ellie Zielinski won two of three at No. 3 doubles for Newport Harbor (8-4, 3-1 in league).

Corona del Mar 14, Beckman 4

CdM’s No. 1 doubles team of Riley Gerdau and Siena Sharf improved their record to 33-3 with a 6-0, 6-2, 6-1 sweep in the Pacific Coast League match Tuesday.

The No. 2 doubles team of Taylor Fogarty and Camellia Edalat moved to 30-4 on the season with a 7-5, 6-0, 6-0 sweep.

In singles, Danielle Willson, Jasie Dunk and Elena Fish each won two of three sets for CdM.

Sage Hill 13, Oxford Academy 4

The Lightning swept in doubles in the Academy League match Tuesday.

Amira Tarsadia and Connie Yu led the way with two wins at No. 1 doubles before being substituted for Sage Hill (5-3, 3-1 in league).

Jaclyn Gerschultz won twice before being subbed out for the Lightning.

Sage Hill def. Crean Lutheran

IRVINE — Kekai Whitford led the Lightning with 21 kills and two aces in their 25-9, 25-10, 25-12 Academy League win Tuesday.

Halland McKenna added 12 kills, 12 digs and two aces and Lina Alzuri contributed four digs and four aces for Sage Hill (10-3, 5-0 in league), ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division 3AA.

The Lightning next play at rival St. Margaret’s, ranked No. 6 in Division 3AA, on Tuesday.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Marina 212, Newport Harbor 227

HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Sailors’ Grace Ferrell earned her Orange County-leading 10th medalist finish after shooting one-under-par 35 at Meadowlark Golf Club Wednesday.

Jackie Defeo (47), Tehya Corona (47), Teanna Herrera (48) and Hannah Knapp (50) also scored during the Sunset League match for Newport Harbor (10-3, 5-2 in league).

Corona del Mar 216, Woodbridge 232

Alyaa Abdulghany shot one-under-par 34 to earn medalist honors for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match at Newport Beach Country Club Tuesday.

Gabby Finear (41), Lauren Nakamura (45), Sarah Reynoso (46) and Sophie Song (50) also scored for CdM (5-3, 3-3 in league), which lost to Northwood, 226-240, on Monday. Finear shot the low for CdM at 41.

GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY

Academy League Cluster Meet

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Sage Hill sophomore Julia Lowe won the race in 19 minutes, 38 seconds on the three-mile course to lead the Lightning to a third-place finish at Central Park on Tuesday.

Crean Lutheran and St. Margaret’s both scored 51 points and Crean won on a tiebreaker. Sage Hill scored 64 points.

Senior Brittany Andressoo (fourth in 20:52), junior Kurisa Suhr (12th in 22:39), senior Rebecca Fudge (14th in 22:50) and senior Claire Goul senior (34th in 25:48) also compred for the Lightning.

BOYS’ CROSS COUNTRY

Academy League Cluster Meet

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Sage Hill senior Patrick Hynes finished sixth in 17:13 on the three-mile course and led the Lightning to a third-place finish at Central Park on Tuesday.

Crean Lutheran won the meet with 27 points, St. Margaret’s followed at 48 and Sage scored 84.

Senior Brian Slaughter (eighth in 17:26), junior Cameron Knollenberg (19th in 18:18), senior Alexis Michaca senior (21st in 18:21) and junior Calvin Shimano (30th in 19:43) also competed for the Lightning.

Sage Hill will next compete in the Orange County Championships Oct. 17 at Irvine Regional Park.
