The Newport Beach Water Polo Club’s 14-and-under boys’ team, coached by Stefano Regosa, has qualified first in the Southern Pacific Zone for the TYR Champions Cup.

Newport Beach won all of its qualification games on Oct. 4-5 at Santiago Canyon College. Newport Beach defeated teams from Orange County Water Polo, Kahuna, SOCAL and Vanguard. Orange County qualified second for the TYR Champions Cup.

Contributors for Newport Beach included Cal Meyer, Jack White, Jack Reid, Oliver Teitscheid, Jonathan Rimlinger, Michael Redoutey, Ian Minsterman, Nathan Porter, Charlie Covina, Makoto Kenney, Jacob Liechty, Isaac Love, Jake Sullivan, Thomas Kennedy and Elias Liechty.

The Newport Beach 14U boys will now travel to the TYR Champions Cup tournament in Lewisville, Texas Nov. 7-9.

“I’m excited to have made it with the boys to the TYR Cup,” Regosa said. “After three years, we have finally made it. The team looked a little behind compared to other teams in terms of organization, but I’m trying to put a new group together and that takes time. I think we played well, but we have a big margin of improvement. As I said to the team after the tournament, I hope this is just the beginning of a fun season.”
