Sage Hill def. Brethren Christian

Halland Mckenna had 11 kills and three aces to help lead the Lightning to a 25-5, 25-11, 25-11 Academy League win Friday at Sage Hill.

Sophie Gordon had seven kills and five digs, Sophia Mossman had seven kills and Maddy Abbott had 24 assists and four aces for Sage Hill (20-4, 10-0 in league).

FOOTBALL

Brethren Christian 35, Sage Hill 17

The Lightning remained winless in the Academy League and dropped their seventh straight league game Friday at Sage Hill.

Beau Roth stood out for Sage Hill with 156 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. Vince Whetmore had a great game receiving with 10 catches for 122 yards for the Lightning.

Roth scored both of his touchdowns in the first half, as Sage Hill held a 14-14 tie at halftime.

But the Warriors outscored the Lightning, 21-3, in the second half.

CROSS COUNTRY

Mt. SAC Invitational

WALNUT — Costa Mesa High placed third in both the boys’ and girls’ Division 4 races Friday at Mt. San Antonio College.

Senior Brett Bermudez placed fourth in 16 minutes, 12 seconds for the Mustangs. Junior Anuare Magana (16:15) placed fifth.

Freshman Emily Olvera (20:33) placed ninth and senior Daysi Vazquez (21:16) placed 16th.

The Mustangs next compete in the Orange Coast League finals at Irvine Regional Park Wednesday.

The girls’ varsity race is at 4 p.m. and the boys race at 4:30 p.m.
