High School Roundup: Newport girls take second at Mt. SAC

WALNUT — Newport Harbor High finished third in the Division 2 sub-sweepstakes race Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College.
Erin Barth led the Sailors, as she finished ninth in 18:43.
Emily Bacon (19th in 19:18), Lauren Loucks (26th in 19:29), Katelyn Mead (30th in 19:39), Ashley Ima (41st in 20:06), Grace Clemence (45th in 20:15) and Holly Clemence (59th in 20:36) also competed for Newport Harbor.
The Sailors will compete in the Sunset League finals at Central Park in Huntington Beach Saturday at 9 a.m.

WALNUT — Sage Hill School’s Brittany Andresso finished 34th in 21 minutes, 39 seconds to lead the Lightning to an 11th-place finish in the Division V Sweepstakes race on Friday.
Julia Lowe was 48th in 21:29 and Rebecca Fudge was 65th in 22:13 to help the Lightning.
Sage competes next at the Academy League Championships, Nov. 5 at 2:30 p.m. at Irvine Regional Park in Orange.

Valley Tournament
CYPRESS — Estancia High split in consolation action Saturday.
The Eagles (3-19) lost to Santa Ana, 15-10.
Cody Nelson and Eli Sperling scored three goals each and Will O’Dell added two each.
Goalie Ty Kearney made six saves.
Estancia beat Paramont, 9-6.
Sperling scored five goals and Nelson made fives saves.
Estancia lost to Western, 16-4, and fell to Rancho Alamitos, 17-11, on Friday. Nelson scored six goals Friday and Sperling and Aaron Will added three goals each.

WALNUT — The Sage Hill School boys placed 13th in the Division V Sweepstakes race, led by Alexis Michaca, who was 62nd in 17 minutes, 59 seconds on Friday.
Jacob Diaz was 63rd in 18:01, while Brian Slaughter was 66th in 18:06 for the Lightning.
Sage competes in the Academy League championships on Nov. 5 at 3:15 p.m. at Irvine Regional Park in Orange.

Sage Hill 15, Whitney 3
Sage Hill captured a share of the Academy League championship and will be the league’s top representative in the CIF Southern Section playoffs.
Celine Wang, Jaclyn Gerschultz and Amira Tarsadia each won two sets in singles before being subbed out at The Tennis Club Newport Beach. Katelyn Harvey and Laruen Fishman each won one singles set for Sage Hill (13-6, 6-2 in league), which shares the league title with St. Margaret’s and Oxford Academy. The Lightning finished as the top seed as they owned the match split differential with St. Margaret’s and Oxford.
The next action for Academy League teams is the league individual tournament at The Tennis Club on Tuesday and Wednesday.
