College Roundup: OCC women’s XC wins So Cal Championships

Southern California Championships
SANTA CLARITA — The Orange Coast College women won the SoCal title with 89 points Friday at Central Park. Glendale finished second with 154 points.
The OCC men’s team finished second. The State Meet will be Nov. 23 at Fresno’s Woodward Park.
Sophomore Karen Silvas led the way, finishing fifth in the 5K race in 19 minutes. Sophomore Leanne Allen was sixth in 19:05 and sophomore Raeanna Cortez was 10th in 19:20.
The OCC men finished with 63 points, behind San Bernardino Valley, which had 35.
Freshman Lucio Ramirez led the OCC men, finishing seventh in 21:08.

MEN’S SOCCER
Orange Coast 2, Santa Ana 1
Thales Serra scored twice to help the host Pirates win their sixth straight match and increase their Orange Empire Conference lead to four points over the Dons with two conference matches left.
OCC (10-4-2, 9-2-1 in conference), seeking its first conference title since 1991, posted goals in the 56th and 66th minute to take a 2-0 lead, then held off the Dons (12-4-3, 7-2-3) as goalie Nathan Brown made four saves.
Tyler Rios and Brice Manning earned assists for OCC, for which Josh Madrid Blake Mooney and Connor Theate were credited with strong defensive play.
The Pirates, who are unbeaten in their last seven games after a 4-0 setback at Santa Ana on Oct. 15, visit Fullerton on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Westmont 4, Vanguard 0
SANTA BARBARA — The visiting Lions were blanked for the third time this season by the Warriors in the semifinals of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday.
The win propels No. 3-ranked Westmont (15-0-3) into the title game on Friday at Concordia.
No. 11-ranked Vanguard (15-4) is expected to receive an at-large bid into the NAIA Tournament.
The Lions managed just five shots, while Westmont had 14. Jen Martin had a team-best two shots for the Lions, for whom, senior forward Jordan Davidson, the GSAC Co-Player of the Year, had none.
Westmont, which finished second in the regular-season standings to Concordia, has outscored Vanguard, 8-0, in three meetings this season.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Orange Coast def. Riverside
Sierra Brown had 12 kills and Kellie Kleszcz added 10 kills to lead the Pirates to a 31-29, 25-19, 25-20 Orange Empire Conference win Friday at OCC.
Megan Ritchie amassed 35 assists for OCC (11-5, 6-5 in conference).
Riverside is 7-12, 3-8.
The Pirates will play host to Irvine Valley on Wednesday night at 7.
