RANCHO CUCAMONGA — Corona del Mar High sophomore Alyaa Abdulghany’s season ended at the CIF/WSCGA State Southern California Girls’ Golf Qualifier Thursday at Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga.

She shot three-over-par 75 and missed the cut, which was at 72 and included the top nine to advance to the CIF State Championship.

Abdulghany endured a tough day, CdM Coach Mike Starkweather said.

“The course was on a mountain hillside,” Starkweather said. “The distances were giving her a problem. Uphill, she needed to hit it farther. And, downhill, she needed to hit it shorter.”

Starkweather said Abdulghany had a great season, overall, as she won the CIF Southern Section championship, Pacific Coast League title and placed third at the CIF Southern Section Individual Regional. She also was the medalist at the CIF Southern Section Team Southern Divisional.

“She certainly has a goal next year and that’s to win state,” Starkweather said.

The coach said she is “absolutely,” capable of that.
