Academy League honors two local boys’ basketball players on first team

Sage Hill School junior center Johnny King and Brethren Christian senior guard Isaiah Vargas garnered first-team All-Academy League boys’ basketball honors.

King led the Lightning (10-17, 5-7 in league) to a fourth-place finish in the league and the CIF Southern Section Division 4A playoffs. Sage Hill lost 70-60 in the first round at No. 2-seeded San Pedro Mary Star of the Sea.

Vargas averaged 25.2 points per game for last-place Brethren Christian (3-18, 0-12).

Sage Hill freshman Cooper Green was on the second team.

Sage Hill sophomore Ryan Hosseinzadeh and Brethren Christian sophomore Derek Reiser made the honorable mention list.

Crean Lutheran sophomore Isaiah Johnson took home the Academy League MVP award.
