High School Boys’ Basketball Roundup: Laguna Beach advances to Grizzly Invitational quarterfinals

Senior guard Blake Burzell finished with 18 points, helping the Laguna Beach High boys’ basketball team beat El Dorado 73-49 and win its pool to advance to the gold bracket quarterfinals of the Grizzly Invitational at Godinez High on Wednesday.

Charlie Rounaghi chipped in 14 points for the Breakers (2-0), and Owen McMurray and Grady Morgan had 13 points apiece.

Laguna Beach plays El Toro (2-0) in the quarterfinals at Godinez High on Thursday at 4:45 p.m.

Another Thursday quarterfinal game has Newport Harbor (2-0) facing Capistrano Valley (2-0) at Irvine High at 7:45 p.m. Capistrano Valley won the CIF Southern Section Division 2A title last season.

Pacifica Christian Orange County 68, Lakewood 62

Sophomore point guard Dominick Harris scored 37 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Tritons’ first win of the season, coming in their third game in the Jim Harris Classic at Ocean View High on Wednesday.

Timmy Bahadoor finished with 15 points and seven rebounds for Pacifica Christian (1-2).

Josh Griffith had six points and 10 rebounds.

The Tritons resume tournament play against ThunderRidge, from Highlands Ranch, Colo., on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Savanna 90, Costa Mesa 87

Junior guard Osman Hefner poured in a career-high 43 points to go with 11 three-pointers for the Mustangs in the Grizzly Invitational at Loara High on Wednesday.

Costa Mesa’s Nico Dasca finished with 26 points and Tre Villalpando added 10.

The Mustangs (0-3) play at Loara in the tournament on Thursday at 6:15 p.m.

Diamond Ranch 81, Huntington Beach 69

Junior guard Jetty Peterson led the Oilers with 16 points in their second game in the Jim Harris Classic on Wednesday.

Huntington Beach’s Richard Imagawa and Nick Saccacio each contributed 15 points.

The Oilers (1-1) take on Lakewood in the tournament on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

ThunderRidge 73, Ocean View 64

The host Seahawks dropped to 1-1 in the Jim Harris Classic on Wednesday.

Ocean View (2-1) next plays Pomona Diamond Ranch in the tournament on Friday at 4 p.m.

Western 50, Los Amigos 39

Sophomore guard Brian Pacheco finished with 14 points for the host Lobos in the Los Amigos Tournament on Wednesday.

Tarbut V’Torah 88, Liberty Christian 20

The Minutemen dropped a season opener on the road Wednesday.
