Sophomore Kyle Robeniol allowed two hits and no earned runs in seven innings to lead the host Pirates in the opening game of the Southern California Regional playoffs on Friday.

Robeniol struck out 10 to improve to 7-0, and sophomore shortstop Travis Moniot was two for three with a home run, three runs batted in, two runs and one stolen base.

Ramiro Velasco was two for three with two RBIs to add to OCC’s eight-hit attack.

The No. 1-seeded Pirates (32-9) meet Southwestern (26-16) again Saturday at 11 a.m. in an attempt to close out the best-of-three series. If necessary, a second game would follow on Saturday.

Cal State Northridge 6, UC Irvine 5 (10 innings)

Keston Hiura was three for three with two runs and a stolen base to lead the host Anteaters in the Big West Conference game Friday.

Parker Coss and Ryan Fitzpatrick both drove in two runs for the Anteaters (16-27, 3-10 in conference), who committed five errors that led to five unearned runs.

Louis Raymond allowed five hits and five runs, all unearned, over 7 2/3 innings and Calvin Faucher hit a batter with the bases loaded to pick up the loss, his fifth in six decisions.

The Matadors are 22-24, 9-7.

The series continues Saturday.
