Where/When: 7 p.m. Friday at San Clemente High.

Key Oilers: Jr. WR/CB Jeremiah Flanagan (five catches for 78 yards); Jr. WR/FS Arick McLawyer (four catches for 74 yards and one TD; one rushing TD; one INT for 50 yards, one forced fumble); Jr. MLB John Gosney (10 tackles, three tackles for a loss).

Key Tritons: Sr. RB/WR Austin Whitsett (13 carries for 66 yards and two TDs; two catches); Jr. RB/FS RJ Donaldson (two carries for 42 yards and one TD; four catches for 13 yards); Sr. WR/FS Sean Turcotte (five carries for 52 yards).

Breakdown: A win for Huntington Beach (0-1) in its opener would have gone a long way in aiding its pursuit of another playoff appearance. After a 30-27 loss to Anaheim Canyon, the road ahead will only get tougher. The Oilers now have back-to-back road contests at San Clemente (1-0) and Tesoro, two of Orange County’s more explosive offenses…Huntington Beach should be encouraged that it was in the game with the Comanches, despite five interceptions thrown by Jacob Hanlon. The freshman quarterback will have to be far more efficient in the coming weeks, or it is possible that Arick McLawyer will see more snaps under center…The Oilers’ secondary wanted the opportunity to prove itelf. San Clemente, the USC quarterback pipeline that has produced Sam Darnold and Jack Sears, presents that big stage. “They air the ball out a lot,” Oilers cornerback Jeremiah Flanagan said of San Clemente prior to the season. “I play DB, so that’s love for me.”
