High School Roundup: Ocean View advances to final of Lady Spartans Winter Shootout

Behind freshman forward Hosanna Walker’s 20 points, eight rebounds and five steals on Thursday, the Ocean View High girls’ basketball team advanced to the championship game of the Villa Park Lady Spartans Winter Shootout with a 44-27 win over Capistrano Valley.

The Seahawks (6-4) will be in the tournament final at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Senior guard Emi Yamasaki added 13 points, four assists and three steals for the Ocean View. Junior forward Kasey Torres recorded nine points, eight rebounds and seven blocks.

Edison 41, Patriot 33: The Chargers (4-4) rode the scoring of their post players in Thursday’s game in the Lakewood Mayfair Winter Classic.

Senior forward Finley Garnett had a team-high 15 points, and senior center Ashley Niemand added 14 points.

Ribet Academy 68, Huntington Beach 33: Freshman shooting guard Meghan McIntyre had a team-high 14 points for the Oilers (5-4) in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, Ariz., on Thursday.

Freshman point guard Alyssa Real and sophomore guard Marisa Tanga each scored six points.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Marina 4, Kennedy 0: Erika Sosa scored two goals, leading the host Vikings to their sixth straight win on Thursday.

Autumn Opperud and Autumn Stewart scored one goal each for the Vikings (9-1-3).

Marina opens Sunset League play Jan. 2 at home against Fountain Valley.

Edison 2, Canyon 2: Madi Macias had a goal and an assist for the visiting Chargers in Thursday’s nonleague game.

Amanda Chadwick also scored for Edison (4-1-2), which begins play in the Excalibur Tournament with a pool-play game against Cypress on Wednesday at 8 a.m. at Silverlakes Soccer Complex in Norco.

Costa Mesa 1, Savanna 1: Veronica Zambrano scored for the Mustangs in Thursday’s nonleague game at home.

Rayleen Chavez had the assist for the Mustangs (0-4-3).

WRESTLING

Capistrano Valley 63, Newport Harbor 6: The visiting Sailors fell to 2-8 overall on Thursday.

Senior Conrad Izzi earned a first-period pin at 170 pounds.

In a varsity girls’ match, junior Alina Aguirre pinned her opponent in the 120-pound weight class in the third period.
