High school roundup: CdM boys’ soccer makes it four straight league wins

Senior Max Rivas and junior Niko Urban scored a goal, ensuring the Corona del Mar High boys’ soccer team won its fourth consecutive game in the Pacific Coast League with a 2-0 shutout of visiting Beckman on Thursday.

Goalkeeper Campbell Sheppard and defender Matt Katz helped the Sea Kings (11-4-1, 4-2-0 in league) blank their third opponent during the winning streak.

CdM plays at first-place University (13-1-2, 6-0-0), ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 poll, on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Ocean View 1, Segerstrom 1 (3-2 in PKs): Junior goalkeeper Savannah Davis made the final save in the shootout for the host Seahawks in Thursday’s Golden West League game.

Freshman Linda Martinez scored in regulation for Ocean View (4-10-2, 3-2-1 in league), which moved ahead of Segerstrom (2-3-1 in league) for third place with four matches remaining.

Ocean View plays at Loara on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Estancia 1, Godinez 0: Lexi Osso scored a header goal assisted by Daniela Garcia in Thursday’s Orange Coast League game at Centennial Regional Park in Santa Ana.

Estancia coach Josh Juarez said senior goalkeeper Monique Mendoza had two big saves late in the game for the Eagles (4-7-3, 4-1-1 in league), who play at Saddleback on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Calvary Chapel 1, Laguna Beach 0: The Breakers lost their first Orange Coast League game of the season Thursday at home.

Laguna Beach, ranked No. 9 in CIF Southern Section Division 4, fell to 7-9-1 overall and 5-1-0 in league.

The first-place Breakers play host to Godinez on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Oxford Academy 107, Brethren Christian 17: The visiting Patriots have a two-game lead in the Academy League after Thursday’s game.

First-place Oxford Academy (20-1, 7-0 in league), the top-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division 3A, is ahead of Sage Hill (12-8, 5-2) and Cerritos Whitney (14-8, 5-2).

The Warriors fell to 3-14 overall and 0-8 in league.

Calvary Chapel 48, Laguna Beach 20: The host Breakers remained winless after Thursday’s Orange Coast League contest.

Laguna Beach, which has four games left, dropped to 0-20 overall and 0-6 in league.
