High School Roundup: Fountain Valley sweeps girls’ volleyball opener

The Fountain Valley High girls’ volleyball team opened its season with a 25-13, 25-13, 25-19 nonleague win over visiting Westminster on Tuesday night.

Taylor Packer, a 2012 graduate of Huntington Beach High, debuted as the head coach of the Barons.

Emily Yanagihara had five kills to pace the Barons, with Juliette Bokor turning in three blocks.

Lauren Mena and Jenna Peterson served as the setters in the Barons’ 6-2 offense.

Laguna Beach 3, Calvary Chapel 0: Ella Tyus had a team-high 14 kills, as the visiting Breakers began the season with a 25-13, 25-12, 25-16 nonleague win on Tuesday.

Piper Naess added nine kills and Gretchen Webb had seven kills for Laguna Beach. Soren Patchell had 26 assists.

Capistrano Valley Christian 3, Brethren Christian 0: The visiting Eagles beat the Warriors 25-7, 25-11, 25-13 in a nonleague match at Liberty Christian High on Tuesday.

Brethren Christian (0-1) is at Oxford Academy on Friday at 5 p.m.
