Where/When: 7 p.m. Friday at Costa Mesa High.

Key Eagles: Fr. QB Cole Boop (88 of 120 passing for 1,037 yards and four TDs); Sr. WR Jonathan Carnevale (34 catches for 509 yards); Sr. WR Daniel Nava (31 catches for 357 yards).

Key Mustangs: Sr. QB Ben Swanson (55 of 96 passing for 706 yards, three TDs, and three INTs; seven carries for 50 yards); Sr. RB/MLB Chris Romero (47 carries for 243 yards; three catches for 30 yards); Sr. TE/MLB Jack Perez (12 catches for 232 yards).

Breakdown: When these teams met last year, both were winless as they entered league. Santa Ana Calvary Chapel won the game in a landslide, 42-7. The Eagles are 0-5 again, but this year, the gap may have closed … Calvary Chapel is starting freshman Cole Boop at quarterback, a year after they had two experienced options at the position in Sam Lak and Robbie Haw … The Mustangs have already surpassed their point total from last year, but they have not shown the ability to pull away from anyone. Costa Mesa is fortunate to be 3-2 as it begins league, having won both of its one-possession games. The Eagles like to put the ball in the air, but if the Mustangs want to start the Orange Coast League with a win, they should avoid that potential shootout and win the turnover battle … The Mustangs have lost three in a row to the Eagles since running the table to win a league title in 2013.
