Where/When: Thursday, 7 p.m. at Veterans Stadium in Long Beach

Key Oilers: Jr. QB-FS Arick McLawyer (23 of 40 passing for 324 yards, eight TDs and four INTs; 66 carries for 274 yards and five TDs; 38 tackles, two INTs, one forced fumble, one blocked field goal); Jr. WR-CB Jeremiah Flanagan (25 catches for 427 yards and six TDs; 16 tackles, three INTs, two sacks); Jr. MLB John Gosney (75 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, one blocked punt)

Key Griffins: Jr. RB Keanu Norman; Sr. QB Grant Caraway; Sr. MLB Alex Miskela

Breakdown: Huntington Beach High has lost five of seven meetings with Los Alamitos since 2010, including the last four. If the Oilers (3-5, 2-1 in league) were able to break that spell on the road, they would forge a three-way tie for first place in the Sunset League. The others would be the Griffins (5-3, 3-0) and the winner of the Edison (5-3, 2-1) and Fountain Valley (6-2, 2-1) game on Friday at Orange Coast College … Since dropping their opener by three points to Canyon, the Oilers have won their last three one-possession games. Huntington Beach has forced nine turnovers in its three wins. The Oilers are also 3-0 in games that senior cornerback Caleb Webb gets an interception … Los Alamitos also gives quarterbacks fits. The Griffins linebacker corps of Alex Miskela, Issaiah Johnson and Nathan Hartman sacked Edison’s Griffin O’Connor six times last week. The Yale-bound quarterback completed just 13 of 41 passes in the contest.
