Week 9 High School Football Preview: Ocean View vs. Loara

When/where: Friday, 7 p.m. at Ocean View High

Key Seahawks: Jr. QB-DB Noah Hickman; Sr. RB Noah De Loera; Sr. WR-CB Nathaniel Washington

Key Saxons: Jr. QB-FS Matt Blackney; Jr. RB-CB Jiggy Mendoza; Sr. G-MLB Asher Lev

Breakdown: As the season began, the arrow for both of these teams was tilted upward, albeit at different stages of the process. Noah Hickman, a junior quarterback transfer from Brethren Christian, gave the Seahawks (4-4, 0-3 in league) hope that they were ready to challenge for a postseason berth after a two-year absence from the postseason. Opposing teams respected the passing game early on, and Noah De Loera broke out with some big performances in the running game … Ocean View averaged 34.2 points per game in its nonleague contests. Since the start of Golden West League play, the Seahawks have averaged just 13 points per game … Loara had nowhere to go but up. The Saxons had won just one game over the last three seasons. Loara is 2-6 this year, but it carries a 14-game losing streak in league into this one. Facing a leaky Saxons defense, which allows 37.3 points per game, should be just what the Seahawks need to snap a three-game losing streak.
