Ocean View girls’ volleyball trio on Golden West League first team

Ocean View High’s Jillian Pratt, Helen Reynolds and Alyson Nguyen earned first-team All-League Golden West League honors for leading the girls’ volleyball team to a share of the league title in coach Joshua Nehls’ debut season.

The trio helped the Seahawks (21-5, 8-2 in league) reach the CIF Southern Section Division 8 quarterfinals, where they lost to No. 3-seeded Malibu in four sets.

Pratt, a junior outside hitter, led the team in kills (140) and service aces (68). She was second on the team with 205 digs.

Reynolds, a junior middle blocker, had 127 kills on a .191 hitting percentage. She added a team-high 60 total blocks with 42 aces.

Nguyen, a sophomore setter, had a season-high 30 assists in a match against co-league champion Segerstrom on Oct. 11. She also had 49 aces in just 57 sets played.

Ocean View’s second-team selections were junior libero Kelli Greiner and senior outside hitter Po Russ.

Greiner led the team in digs with 331. She added 679 serve receptions across 70 sets played.

Russ had 136 digs and 274 serve receptions, adding 79 kills and 25 aces.
