Where/When: 7 p.m. Friday at Westminster High.

Key Vikings: Sr. QB/DB Ian Green (18 of 26 passing for 312 yards and four TDs and two INTs; 25 carries for 43 yards and one TD); Sr. RB/SS Blaine Riederich (18 carries for 130 yards and two TDs; seven catches for 76 yards and one TD); Sr. RB/SS Brandon Savea (four catches for 61 yards and two TDs).

Key Lions: Sr. QB Noah Melbon (6-foot-1, 190 pounds; 10 of 21 passing for 162 yards; two rushing TDs); Sr. RB/SS Dennis Ly (eight carries for 72 yards); Sr. RB/OLB Jacob McGookin (6-foot-2, 230 pounds; four-yard rushing TD)

Breakdown: There were few games that were closer than the first Battle at Boswell last season. The Vikings (2-0) won last year’s clash, 24-20, but they were fortunate to do so. A roughing the kicker penalty extended a late Marina drive, and Blaine Riederich found the end zone two plays later for the go-ahead score with 2:24 left. The Vikings senior running back should be one to watch in this game. Westminster’s (1-0) run defense gave up 142 yards and two touchdowns to Garden Grove’s Dominik Sanchez last week. Sanchez had just four carries before missing the rest of the game due to reported concussion concerns. Lions’ quarterback Noah Melbon had a rushing score in the rivalry game a year ago. He scored twice on quarterback sneaks against the Argonauts in the Lions’ opener.
