Sage Hill senior Adam Langevin lost to Kento Perera of San Marcos, 6-3, 6-1, in another round of 16 match.

CdM’s Paulsen, a senior, said in a phone interview that he had no regrets about his showing with Fernandez del Valle. They were playing together for the first time this season.

“[San Marino] was the No. 1 seed and they deserve to be the No. 1 seed,” Paulsen said. “I was just showing up to play, having fun with it. No pressure was on me … We started off pretty tired [against Mira Costa], pretty sluggish, but we some good coaching to wake us back up in the second set. And then we did the same thing in the third set. Waking up at 8 [a.m.], it’s kind of difficult to do that two days in a row, but it was fine.”

Fernandez del Valle also had fun playing in the CIF Doubles division for the second straight year. Last year, he played for CdM with his older brother Pedro.

“I was really happy,” Fernandez del Valle said. “We got a very easy draw, plus we had great coaching, always helping us power through our matches. Matt was doing great with the volleys. Especially his backhand volleys were on point.”

In girls’ 14 singles, No. 2-seeded Leyden Games of Newport Beach advanced to the semifinals. She will play No. 3-seeded Justine Dondonay of Alhambra in a semifinal match Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Ojai Valley Inn.
