Balboa Yacht Club wins Rose Cup

Newport Beach skipper David Wood steered the Balboa Yacht Club to a first-place finish at the U.S. Youth Match Racing Championship for the Rose Cup last month in Fort Worth, Texas.

The team, which also included Newport Beach’s Max Brennan, Costa Mesa’s Catherine Reynolds and Santa Ana’s Jeffrey Petersen, received an invitation to the Governor’s Cup at the Balboa Yacht Club on July 17-22.

Balboa Yacht Club also qualified for the Oakcliff Halloween Invitational in Oyster, N.Y., on Oct. 28-29.

Wood and company defeated another Balboa Yacht Club team in the semifinals. The team included Newport Beach’s Porter Killian, John Horton, Robert Garrett and Victoria Thompson.
