Sage Hill’s Drobenko earns Academy League MVP
After helping the Sage Hill School boys’ water polo team win its first Academy League title in program history, senior Zane Drobenko has earned the league MVP award.
Drobenko is joined on the first team by Lightning teammates Miles Wilson, Adam Watson and Connor Cohen.
Drobenko, a utility player and repeat first-team selection, led the Lightning with 100 goals and 52 assists this season, adding 56 steals and a team-best 45 ejections earned. He helped Sage Hill (20-9, 3-0 in league) win league before qualifying for the CIF Southern Section Division 5 playoffs.
The Lightning beat Glendora 15-7 in the first round before losing at No. 2-seeded Oxnard Rio Mesa 7-4 in the second round.
Watson, a junior attacker and repeat first-team selection, was second on the team with 71 goals. He had 21 assists and a team-best 90 steals.
Cohen, a freshman defender, had 48 goals, 16 assists and 50 steals.
Wilson, Sage Hill’s senior goalie, finished with 195 saves.
Sage Hill junior Matteo Merage, junior Michael Vaden and sophomore Zach Decker earned second-team accolades.
