Quick start propels Sage Hill to impressive girls’ tennis victory against Mater Dei

The Sage High School girls’ tennis team improved to 2-0 with a convincing 13-5 nonleague victory against Mater Dei at the Los Caballeros Racquet & Sports Club on Wednesday.

The Lightning was paced by the No. 1 doubles team of Izzy Deckey and Morgan Mann, who swept 6-3, 6-2 and 6-1. The No. 2 duo of Miya Byrd and Stephanie Beder also won a pair of sets.

In singles, junior Michelle Hung rallied from a 5-3 defict against Mater Dei’s No. 1, Natasha Hill, to win 7-5, capping off an impressive 6-0 run for Sage Hill after the first round. Hung added a 6-4 victory against Mater Dei’s No. 2, Hannah Jervis, before sitting out the third round. Sage Hill’s No. 2 singles player, Nicole Condas, went 6-2, 6-0, before taking the third round off.
