Sage Hill edges Newport Harbor in girls’ tennis

Sage Hill girls’ tennis used a balanced attack to beat Newport Harbor, 11-7, in a nonleague match on Wednesday.

Sage junior Morgan Mann and sophomore Miya Stauss each won two singles sets for the Lightning (8-1). Junior Michelle Hung won once before she was subbed out.

The Lightning also won six of nine doubles sets, as the teams of Izzy Deckey and Nicole Condas, as well as Maya Byrd and Miranda DeBruyne, each won twice. So did Stephanie Beder and Nina Grover.

Senior Nicole Knickerbocker won all three of her singles sets 6-0 for Newport Harbor (4-1), which plays host to rival Corona del Mar on Thursday in the Battle of the Bay match.

Sage Hill hosts the Prep Classic tournament this weekend.
