High School Wrestling Roundup: Osumi perfect in Battle by the Bay

Junior Austin Osumi starred for Newport Harbor High’s wrestling team in the Battle by the Bay dual tournament on Saturday at Corona del Mar High.

While the Sailors went 1-4 as a team, Osumi recorded five pins in the 195-pound weight class.

Newport Harbor fared well in the upper weight divisions, as Miguel Licona (220s) and Eduardo Rios (285s) each went 3-0 with one victory by fall, respectively.

Newport Harbor beat Godinez 42-36. The Sailors’ losses were against Corona Centennial (69-12), Whittier La Serna (42-27), CdM (40-30), and Costa Mesa (48-35).

Costa Mesa also went 1-4 on the day. Jacob Jones (160s) and Alejandro Rojo (120s) won all five of their matches by pin.
