District All-Star tourney starts
Laguna Beach Little League All-Star teams begin postseason play this weekend at the District 55 All-Star Tournament.
The double-elimination event starts Saturday for the Little League, 10/11 and 9/10 All-Stars. The Junior All-Stars tournament begins Sunday.
The tournament will be played at three different sites throughout the district. Laguna Niguel Little League is hosting both the Little League and Junior division tournaments at Chapparosa Park. The 10/11 tournament will be played at Hicks Canyon in Irvine and all 9/10 division games will be at Woodfield Park in Aliso Viejo.
The tournament runs through July 12 but no games will be played between July 3-6 due to the Fourth of July holiday.
The district tournament is the first step toward Williamsport, Pa., home of the Little League World Series, for all Little League division All-Star teams.
The Laguna Beach Little League All-Star team opens play at 11 a.m. Saturday against Aliso Viejo at Chapparosa Park in Laguna Niguel. The winner moves on to face Newport Beach American in a winner’s bracket game at 4 p.m. Sunday. The loser of Saturday’s game plays an elimination game at 7 p.m. Monday at Chapparosa Park, Field No. 3.
Laguna Beach’s 10/11 All-Star team begins the tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday against Newport Beach National at Hicks Canyon (Field No. 1) in Irvine. The winner of that game moves on to face Laguna Niguel at Field No. 1 at 4 p.m. Sunday. The loser, plays on Field No. 3 at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
In the 9/10 Division, Laguna Beach will battle Central Irvine at 1 p.m. Saturday at Woodfield Park (Field No. 4) in Aliso Viejo. The winner goes on to meet Newport Beach National at Field No. 4 at 4 p.m. Sunday; the loser, goes into the elimination side of the bracket and plays at Field No. 6 at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The Laguna Beach Junior All-Stars begin tourney play at 5 p.m. Sunday against Rancho Niguel at Chapparosa Park (Field No. 1). The winner advances to play Laguna Niguel at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The loser plays an elimination game at 7 p.m. July 2 at Field No. 2.
