Pitz captures another NSSA crown

Taylor Pitz has done it again. For the second time in September, the Laguna Beach High senior has won the Open Women’s division at a National Scholastic Surfing Assn. (NSSA) Southwest Open Season series contest. Pitz emerged victorious Sunday at the Oceanside Pier. It was the second of 10 events in the NSSA contest season. Pitz also won the Open Women’s Division at the first season contest Sept. 12 at the Huntington Beach Pier. The next NSSA event is Oct. 16-17 at Camp Pendelton.

Laguna boys’ water polo again No. 1

The Laguna Beach High boys’ water polo team again heads the CIF Southern Section Division 3 poll for a second consecutive week. The Breakers are followed in the division rankings by Palos Verdes, Damien, Aliso Viejo, Mira Costa, Capistrano Valley, Peninsula, Santa Monica, South Pasadena and La Canada.

In girls’ volleyball, Laguna is second to Redlands East Valley in the Division 1-A poll. Following the Breakers in the rankings is Marymount, Vista Murrieta, Corona del Mar, Great Oak, El Dorado, Los Osos, Arroyo Grande and Saugus.

In boys’ cross-country, Laguna is ranked eighth in Division 4. The poll is headed by Bosco Tech followed by Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks, JSerra, Crespi, Harvard/Westlake, Maranatha, Oaks Christian, Laguna Beach, Salesian, Big Bear, Murrieta Mesa, Rosamond and L.A. Baptist.
