Ocean View’s Congelliere only local to earn All-CIF

Ocean View High’s Michael Congelliere stepped into some rare company by being named to the 2010 All-CIF Southern Section Southern Division team.

Congelliere, a senior listed at 6 feet 1, 240 pounds, was one of five linebackers named to the division’s defensive team. Quarterback Josh Webb and Coach Willy Puga of division champion Garden Grove were named Offensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively. The Defensive Player of the Year honor went to linebacker Preston Risser of Corona del Mar.

He was one of eight players from the Golden West League to be named to the Southern Division team.

Congelliere follows former Ocean View offensive lineman Kody Afusia as an All-CIF selection. Afusia, who is playing at the University of Hawaii, was on the 2009 All-CIF Southern Division team.
