Samuelson to play in All-American game
Edison forward Bonnie Samuelson has been selected to play for the West in the girls’ 2011 McDonald’s All-American High School Basketball Games on March 30 at the United Center in Chicago. The 6-foot-3 Stanford-bound Samuelson is one of four Orange County athletes named to the West team, along with Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Alexyz Vaioletama of Mater Dei and Justine Hartman of Brea Olinda.
The West will take on the East in a game that will be televised live on ESPNU.

Locals take rankings into playoffs
The Edison girls’ basketball and boys’ soccer teams are taking top billing into this week’s CIF playoffs. The girls’ basketball team again is No. 1 in Division 1A poll and the boys’ soccer team — despite a 1-0 loss Feb. 9 at Los Alamitos, its first loss of the season — continues to head the Division 1 rankings.
In girls’ basketball, Huntington Beach is ranked third in Division 2AA, Ocean View No. 14 in Division 4AA and Brethren Christian is fifth in Division 5A. In boys’ basketball, Fountain Valley is No. 13 in the Division 1A poll, Edison is No. 5 and Huntington Beach No. 11 in Division 2AA and Brethren Christian is No. 6 in Division 5A.
In girls’ water polo, Edison is eighth and Fountain Valley No. 9 in the Division 1 poll. In girls’ soccer, Edison is ranked seventh in Division 1.
All polls are the final rankings of the season.
