Newport Harbor High senior girls’ water polo player Kailyn Obenauer has committed to Loyola Marymount, she confirmed.

Obenauer, a center, was second on the Sailors with 41 goals scored this year. She was a second-team All-Sunset League selection and third-team All-CIF Division I, as well as a Daily Pilot Dream Team selection.

Obenauer joins Catherine Carpenter (Stanford), goalie Sarah Wilkey and Mary Rose Wight (UCLA) as part of a strong Sailors senior class that will continue playing in college. She said backup goalie Izzy Donati will attend San Francisco State but doesn’t plan to play water polo.

“It’s so exciting,” Obenauer said. “Mary Rose and Sarah are going to be close by, and we’ll all be playing against each other throughout the year. It’ll be a lot of fun.”

LMU (23-8) is the top seed for this weekend’s Western Water Polo Assn. championships, at Cal State East Bay.
