IRVINE — The visitors scored once in the ninth inning and once in the 10th to deal the Anteaters their first home loss of the season in Big West Conference action Friday night at UCI.

The run in the ninth was unearned, and UC Davis’ Scott Lyman scored in the 10th on a one-out fielder’s choice hit by Spencer Brann. There was a fielding error by the UC Irvine shortstop on the play.

UC Irvine starting pitcher Crosby Slaught allowed one earned run in 5 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and striking out two.

Jordan Leyland was one for four with a double for No. 18 UCI (25-10, 7-4 in conference). Sean Madigan was one for three with a run batted in and Ronnie Shaeffer also had an RBI.

UCI held a 2-1 lead after eight innings but the Aggies loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the ninth against closer Brian Hernandez. Hernandez looked to be out of the inning as Seth Batty bounced a pitch in front of home plate but an error on the play would allow the tying run to score.

UC Davis improved to 9-23, 3-5.

The three-game series concludes Saturday at 2 p.m.
