Marina clinched its second-consecutive Sunset League boys’ tennis championship and third in four years Monday by defeating host Huntington Beach, 15-3.

The Vikings received a clean-sweep in singles play from No. 1 Parker Glore (6-1, 6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Kevin Young (6-2, 6-0, 6-0) and Daniel Cancilla (6-3, 6-2, 6-1) at No. 3. Roy Nielsen and Toma Hamerlink (6-2, 6-1, 6-1) also swept at No. 1 doubles.

After Monday’s match, Glore was 27-0 and Young 26-1 in league match play. Since their arrival at on the Marina courts four years ago, the Vikings have won league titles in 2008, 2010 and this year.

“They are outstanding young men and have been a great asset to our tennis program,” Marina Coach Bruce Beutler said.

Monday’s triumph put the Vikings, who wrap up league and regular season play at home Monday against Edison, at 9-0 in league and 17-2 overall.

Glore, a senior who turned 18 in March, is playing up north this week at the Ojai Tournament, his third trip in four years to the prestigious event. He teamed with Young in doubles play during their sophomore year at Ojai and as a junior played singles. His first singles match is Thursday.

The University of Redlands-bound standout went undefeated in Sunset play last year and then won the Sunset League singles tournament title at the end of the regular season. He is three sets away from a repeat of that feat before moving on to this year’s league prelims which start at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Seal Beach Tennis Center.

“It’s been an amazing year so far,” said Glore who said he is ranked 48th by the United States Tennis Assn. in the boys’ 18-and-Under Open division. “I’ve felt some pressure to continue with the success that I had last year but I’ve been very focused. We have one more league match against Edison next week and then the league tournament.

“Right now, I’m getting ready for Ojai. It’s my final time there and I want to do well. I would pretty much consider it a success if I get to the quarterfinals. Anything beyond that, would be a bonus.”
