COSTA MESA — Estancia High junior Jake Knapp made three eagles and shot eight-under-par 64 to take command after the first 18 holes of the 36-hole tournament Monday at Costa Mesa Country Club.
The tournament will conclude Wednesday at El Dorado Golf Course in Long Beach.
Knapp is among two Eagles to advance. Jake Stone shot 78.
Costa Mesa’s Nelson Negrillo (82 also made the cut.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Five from Corona del Mar High were among the 26 from the 36-player field to advance after 18 holes Monday at Mile Square Golf Course.
The final 18 holes are Tuesday, at the same venue.
Sea Kings senior Tanner Trauthan and junior Brian Mull are tied for fourth (73).
John Davenport (75), two-time-defending league champion Mike Moorhead (77) and Karick Brown (77) also moved on for CdM.
Academy League finals
SAN CLEMENTE — Five Sage Hill School players advanced from Monday’s first day to the second day of the 36-hole event. Monday’s action was at San Clemente Golf Course.
Jared Hoffman (82), Ahmed Eltamami (83), Kam Fujii (86), Tanner Tremaine (86) and Matt Marlin (86) will all represent the league champion Lightning in the final round at El Niguel Country Club.

Newport Harbor 14, Huntington Beach 4
NEWPORT BEACH — Jason Cernius and Fred Matz swept at Nos. 1 and 3 singles to pace the host Sailors in the Sunset League finale Monday.
Newport Harbor (7-10, 4-6 in league) finishes fourth.
