Jock fastest in semis
DES MOINES, Iowa — UC Irvine junior Charles Jock posted the fastest-qualifying 800-meter time in the semifinals of the NCAA Track & Field Championships at Des Moines, Iowa, Wednesday.
Jock won his heat in 1 minute, 45.77 seconds, which was the best time of the 24 competitors in three heats at Drake Stadium.
Willie Brown of Akron, running in the same heat as Jock, had the second-fastest time of 1:45.91.
Jock ranks No. 1 in the NCAA this season with an 800 time of 1:45.19 that he ran in winning the Elite Invitational 800 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays April 16, breaking his own school record.
The 800-meter final is scheduled for Friday at 5:20 p.m. (PDT).
