ORANGE — The Lions scored three unanswered goals in a 21-minute span en route to the nonconference win Saturday.

Kyle O’Brien, Kevin Cornwall and Billy Pellow scored a goal each for Vanguard (5-3).

Chapman is 5-1.

Idaho def. UC Irvine

IRVINE — Marisa Bubica had 12 kills for the Anteaters in the UC Irvine Active Ankle Challenge match that the Vandals won, 25-20, 25-21, 25-22, Saturday.

Arielle Manz had nine kills, Mary Carls had 38 assists and Kristin Winkler had 29 digs for UCI (5-5), which went 1-1 in the event.

Idaho is 5-7.

MEN’S WATER POLO

NorCal Tournament

STOCKTON — No. 6-ranked UC Irvine defeated Long Beach State and lost to top-ranked USC Saturday.

UCI (8-1) will meet No. 5 Pacific in a fifth-place bracket semifinal Sunday morning at 8.

Jacob Mourer scored the game-winning goal with 1:02 remaining to lift UCI past ninth-ranked Long Beach State, 8-7, Saturday morning.

Mourer’s goal completed UCI’s comeback from a 6-3 halftime deficit.

In the afternoon game versus No. 1 USC, the ‘Eaters played the Trojans tight in the first half before falling, 11-4.

It was the first loss of the season for UCI.

STOCKTON — Vanguard lost to Cal, 27-3, Saturday.

Colt McKittrick scored for the Lions.

UC Riverside Invitational

RIVERSIDE — Senior Kimberly Jennings finished 37th in the 6K race in 21 minutes, 44 seconds to help the Vanguard women finish 14th Saturday.

Senior Matt Johnson led the Vanguard men, finishing 45th in 25:30 to help the Lions finish 16th.

Orange Coast Classic

COSTA MESA — Meghan Foley placed third in 18 minutes, 17.10 seconds to help Orange Coast finished second at Fairview Park Saturday.

Glendale won the women’s division.

Matt Bottomley took sixth in 20:45.84 to help the Pirates take second behind San Bernardino Valley on the men’s side.
