South Coast Tournament

NEWPORT BEACH — Farrel South scored three goals to help lead Newport Harbor to a 9-4 quarterfinal win over Los Alamitos Friday.

The Sailors will play against Loyola in a semifinal Saturday at 11:45 a.m. at Newport Harbor.

Ryan Fowler and Preston Lee scored two goals each, while Dan Stevens and Andrew Silvers had one goal each.

Curtis Fink had four assists and three steals. Senior Koby Yokota had 10 saves, including another block of a five-meter penalty shot.

South Coast Tournament

CORONA DEL MAR — Ben Zepfel led Corona del Mar with three goals, but the Sea Kings lost the quarterfinal game to Huntington Beach, 12-6, Friday.

Zepfel also drew three ejections, Charlie Howarth had one goal, two assists and one steal, Jake Wyatt had one goal and one steal and Wesley Sherburne had one goal for CdM (4-1).

The Sea Kings play in the fifth-place semifinal Saturday at 8:35 a.m.

Grafton Weiss Memorial Tournament

ORANGE —James Lewis came back from a hip injury and scored four goals to lead Costas Mesa to a 9-8 win over Lakewood in a pool-play game Friday at Orange High.

Wyatt Ferris had three goals and Quinn Stone had two goals.

Ferris had three goals in a 14-6 loss to Tustin. Matt Moore had one goal.

Costa Mesa (6-1) will face Kennedy Saturday morning.

Estancia 11, Marina 8

COSTA MESA — Senior Paul Sugano-Dyson had four goals as the Eagles won the nonleague game Friday at Estancia High.

Derek Andrews had three goals for Estancia (1-3), and Garrett Henshied made six saves. Coach John Carpenter credited his team’s improved defense for the victory.

Estancia plays at Brea Olinda on Tuesday before returning home for its Orange Coast League opener against Godinez on Wednesday.

NEWPORT BEACH — Newport Harbor opened with pool-play wins over Capistrano Valley, 25-17, 25-20, and Chaparral, 25-12, 25-20, Friday at Newport Harbor.

Alex Holbrook (16 kills, two blocks, four aces), Claire Castillo (seven kills), Cinnamon Sary (12 kills, two blocks), Kasey Thompson (nine kills), Caroline Bockrath (six kills, seven blocks), Torey Thompson (34 assists), Tatum Norton (eight digs) and Hunter Jennings (five digs) contributed throughout the day.

Newport Harbor (5-1) faces Harvard-Westlake Saturday at 9 a.m. in its last pool-play match.

COSTA MESA — Sage Hill won twice in Division II, beating Canyon, 22-25, 25-20, 15-13, and Costa Mesa, 25-10, 26-24.

Kekai Whitford had seven kills, two blocks and eight digs and Zoe Kreitenberg had seven kills and four blocks against Canyon. Halland McKenna had six kills and two aces against Costa Mesa.

Sage Hill (5-3) faces Carlsbad Saturday morning to end pool play.

Corona del Mar opened with wins over Tesoro, 25-11, 25-13, and West Ranch, 25-9, 25-11, Friday.

Prep Classic Invitational

NEWPORT BEACH — Sage Hill took the first-day lead in its own sixth annual team tournament Friday at the Tennis Club Newport Beach.

The tournament continues Saturday. Competition is best of nine matches (five singles, four doubles in the round-robin event. Sage leads JSerra, 4-1, in singles. In doubles, Sage leads Capistrano Valley Christian, 4-0.
