High School Roundup: Sailors win league opener

NEWPORT BEACH — Seven different Sailors scored in their Sunset League opener Wednesday night at Newport Harbor High.

Senior Hank Lee and junior Curtis Fink each scored three goals for Newport Harbor (9-1). Junior Dan Stevens and sophomore Mitchell Mendoza scored twice each, and Ryan Fowler, Andrew Silvers and Sam Edson added one goal each.

Senior Koby Yokota had nine saves for the Tars, ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll. Newport Harbor opens the S&R Sport Cup at 10 a.m. Friday against Davis, at Irvine’s Woollett Aquatics Center.

Laguna Beach 23, Estancia 3

LAGUNA BEACH — Senior Paul Sugano-Dyson recorded two goals in the Eagles’ Orange Coast League game on Wednesday.

Brooks Watkins had one goal for Estancia (2-5, 1-1 in league).

The Eagles return to pool-play action in the Estancia Tournament on Friday. The Eagles play Marina at 3:20 p.m.
