Vanguard 43, Biola 38
COSTA MESA — Allison Burns had 10 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench to lead the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.
It was the seventh straight win for VU (15-3, 9-1 in conference), which posted a 47-34 rebounding advantage to overcome its 22-17 turnover deficit.
Biola fell to 12-8, 4-6.

Doubleheader
COSTA MESA — Vanguard University swept a pair from nonconference visitor Cal Lutheran on Saturday, winning the opener, 3-2, with a walk-off run in the seventh and blanking the Lancers on a three-hitter in the second game.
Brittany Colenzo was three for three with a run batted in in the opening game and was two for three with two RBIs and two runs in the second game. She also pitched six innings to earn the win in the second game.
Breanne Gomez went two for two with an RBI in the second game.
Stacie Salazar got the Game 1 victory, allowing two earned runs and seven hits in a complete game.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Biola 86, Vanguard 84 (OT)
COSTA MESA — The Lions led by 13 midway through the second half and were up, 84-83, with 12 seconds left in overtime, before Davey Hopkins sank two free throws to put the Golden State Athletic Conference visitors ahead for good Saturday.
Christopher Raybon had 23 points and six assists and Christopher Kupets had 18 points for Vanguard (13-8, 5-5 in conference), which posted a 25-11 edge in turnovers and was 12 of 23 from three-point range (52.2%).
Biola is 15-7, 5-5.

UC Santa Barbara Invitational
SANTA BARBARA — UC Irvine split two games, defeating Indiana, 9-4, after falling to Arizona State, 9-8, on Saturday.
Jessy Cardey scored two goals in each game to pace No. 7-ranked UCI (1-1).
ASU is ranked No. 6.
UCI plays two more tournament games Sunday.

LOS ANGELES — The Anteaters were blanked in the opener of the ITA Kickoff Classic on Saturday and will meet the UCLA-Alabama loser in Sunday’s match.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — UC Irvine freshman Itos Aikhionbare finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 41 feet, 2 1/4 inches to highlight the Anteaters competing.
Amber Middleton was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.73 seconds.
