IRVINE — Junior setter Chris Austin guided the No. 4-ranked Anteaters to a 25-15, 25-22, 25-23 victory in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Wednesday.
Austin had a career-high 41 assists to help UCI (11-3, 7-3 in conference) post a .486 hitting percentage against the No. 12-ranked Matadors (4-9, 2-7). He is filling in for sophomore starter Daniel Stork, who is out with a concussion sustained in practice.
Senior opposite Carson Clark led the winners with 16 kills and a .577 hitting percentage.
Junior outside hitter Kevin Tillie added 13 kills, eight digs and two block assists for UCI, which posted a 9-5-3.5 edge in team blocks.
UCI plays host to No. 9-ranked Long Beach State on Friday at 7 p.m.

Orange Coast def. Santa Monica
COSTA MESA — Chris Van Vuuren had 12 kills and Dillon Emery added 10 for the host Pirates in the nonconference match Wednesday.
The game scores were 25-17, 25-19, 25-17, as OCC improved to 3-2 and dropped the Corsairs to 3-4.
Michael Ensign had 33 assists for OCC, which concludes nonconference play at Long Beach on Friday at 6 p.m.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Cal State Los Angeles 8, Vanguard 1
COSTA MESA — Gabriela Bergmanova defeated Christie Lau, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 1 singles to record the lone victory for the host Lions in the nonconference match Wednesday.
Vanguard, ranked No. 11 in the NAIA, is 2-3, while Cal State L.A., an NCAA Division II school, is 5-3.
